Abigail Cowen’s freckled complexion and burnished mane (and brows!) are a cause for learned curation. “In clothing, I don’t like to usually wear orange, because my hair is orange, but for eyes, I’ve actually found that it is just the all-time best color for me,” says the actor, who you may recognize from The Chilling Adventure of Sabrina and, more recently, as the star of Netflix’s Fate: The Winx Saga, a reimagining of Nickelodeon’s early-aughts animated series, Winx Club. “I try to stay away from pinks. I feel like they’re not always the best with my skin because redheads are naturally, like, rosy.” Before makeup, though, comes a regimented skin care routine, which Cowen says she honed around two years ago. After a deep cleanse and a swirl of an exfoliating brush, Cowen pins back her trademark mane (“I decided to cut my own bangs the other day, so they’re a little wonky,” says Cowen) for phase two of her routine. A swipe of witch hazel is followed by a de-puffing ice massage and a 20-minute pause to allow a Masque Bar Hydro Gel Rejuvenating Charcoal Eye Patches to do their work. To achieve optimal eyeshadow application, Cowen reaches for a folded piece of toilet paper to create a border that runs from the edge of the eye to the end of the brow. From there, a wash of orange shadow serves as a base to taupe accents and a diffused blend of nude, making for a warm, earthy ombré moment. Next comes concealer and a blend of foundations—those from Shiseido and Armani Beauty—applied with a brush and tapped with a beauty blender for extra melding, with Anastasia Contour Powder delivering strategic accents along the cheekbones, jawline, and collarbones.

“This little guy has been wonderful for me,” says Cowen, brandishing Benefit’s Gimme Brow, which she brushes up further with a spoolie, carving out the top of each brow with a few dots of concealer. Next, a crimp of an eyelash curler and a coat of Maybelline Full 'N Soft Mascara transforms Cowen’s gaze, an edging of the previously used orange shadow offering additional cohesion. “It’s so drastic. Growing up with completely blonde eyelashes, I was—I mean I still kind of am—very like, insecure about the way that I look with makeup versus without,” says Cowen. "I literally used to not be seen out of my house without mascara on.” Last but not least? A red lip courtesy of Chanel, pulled straight onto the lips, blurred with a finger, and cleaned up with a rim of concealer. Cowen has created a warm, eye-catching beauty look ideal for any occasion—and perfect for her.
