Advice On New Motherhood From Model Grace Elizabeth

Plan your first postpartum meal—and try to condition your body to take catnaps if you can!

Doulas and midwives often tell their clients to record their birth stories so they don't forget the moments leading up to how they became mothers. But this past year has changed many of these narratives as the global pandemic has impacted birthing people in ways big and small. Some welcomed children alone, as hospitals struggled to contain the virus. Others have been isolated from friends and family, trading in-person celebrations for face-time and Zoom calls. As we prepare to celebrate Mother's Day, Birth Stories—a limited audio series hosted by Vogue Beauty Director and pandemic mom Celia Ellenberg—spotlights the resilience of women and the weird, wild, and wonderful experience of bringing life into the world during a time of unimaginable loss.

Grace Elizabeth is a fixture on the international runway scene. But when fashion shows and industry events came to a halt last year, Elizabeth became pregnant with her first child. While she spent most of her pregnancy observing stay-home orders, her third trimester took an unexpected turn when she went into labor on the set of a Victoria's Secret shoot with the photographer Cass Bird. Last month, after deciding to keep her growing belly off social media, Elizabeth made headlines when she shared the campaign image with her 1.2 million Instagram followers. It was a postpartum pregnancy reveal for the ages. In today's episode, the 24-year-old Florida native reveals that she was newly pregnant at Jacquemus's Spring show, while speaking candidly about balancing modeling and new motherhood.
