At Chanel Couture, Bohemian Brides Wear an Array of Dreamy Flower Crowns
There was a distinct—and very welcome—air of optimism at today's socially-distanced Chanel haute couture show inside the Grand Palais. The South of France-inspired set was blooming, frothy tulle pastel skirts swooshed down the runway, and a sprinkling of flower crowns added a dose of spring romance to the bohemian bride-themed show.
Striking the right balance between beautiful sartorial tradition and not too neo-hippie Coachella, the vivid flower garlands were crafted with fresh blooms and placed upon polished low ponytails with clean center parts by hairstylist Damien Boissinot. Djibouti newcomer Malika Louback sported a sculptural, jewel-toned bouquet above a metallic patchwork maxi shift, while French model Leelou Laridan donned a mix of navy and pewter flowers to complement her cotton candy blue-colored confection to dreamy effect.
Adding to the spritely milieu were the uniform sun-kissed glows. Makeup artist Lucia Pica enhanced each model's complexion by sculpting cheeks with a dusting of shimmery bronzer, then smoked out lids with a tawny shadow for an all-over, monochrome glow. A pinky nude lip and lush, brushed-up brows finished the look. Amid the dreary winter months and darkness of the times, Chanel's one-two punch of summery warmth and rich, bold color by way of fresh blooms felt positively sunny. Hopefully, in the not too distant future, flower crown-worthy festivities will resume.
