Helmed by Nu Swim’s Gina Esposito and COA’s Amanda Lurie, the Williamsburg store is a one-stop shop for unusual finds.

Once upon a time, style savvy New Yorkers could venture out and arrive back to their apartments toting an armload of shopping bags, each stuffed with its own sartorial treasures. These days, as Madison Avenue department stores and downtown boutiques alike have shuttered, such sprees are largely confined to the digital realm. But that’s all changing with the arrival of Tangerine, a new East Williamsburg destination helmed by Nu Swim’s Gina Esposito and COA’s Amanda Lurie.

“We wanted to bring our communities together,” Esposito says of the intention behind the white-washed Lorimer Street corner space which she and Lurie have spent the past month renovating and filling with pieces by friends both old and new: Tigra Tigra’s tie-dyed mashroo dresses; one-of-a-kind beaded necklaces by Yona Kohen; and sustainable, pleated silks from Marseille’s Azur—not to mention a selection of vintage finds (delicate laces; buttery leather coats) curated by Either And.

“It’s not a store where you feel scared to touch things,” says Lurie.

But wait, there’s more! Checkered Japanese glassware, egg-white bar soaps made in the Belgian countryside, and a library of used books—ranging from dream guides to Jack Kerouac poetry—cover a large rectangular table; a burgundy-painted register (which, equipped with stools and stacks of magazines, doubles as a seating space) hosts herbal lollipops, sachets of loose leaf tea, and an exclusive jasmine-infused Tart Vinegar—for now, at least. “Not many brands will be permanent,” adds Lurie, who’s wearing silver Sapir Bachar studs straight off the shelf. “We’ll always be inviting in new designers and testing out what people want.”

Though the store’s name is an ode to summer (even in the depths of winter, Nu Swim’s easy-going bikinis and one-pieces will be on offer), Esposito insists the shop has something for every season. Case in point? Her new Italian merino crewnecks occupy prime window real estate, as do Martiniano’s leather glove shoes, Rachel Witus’s kaleidoscopic hand-knit hats, and patterned tights by Emily Dawn Long—all of which visitors can happily carry home in Tangerine’s made-in-Oaxaca recycled plastic totes. Needless to say, leaving empty-handed is a near-impossible feat.
