The Parisian interior designer sounds off on the single makeup product she reaches for every day.
Camille Vergnes’s Ultimate French-Girl Secret for No-Makeup Makeup
In the head-spinning age of multi-step skin-care routines and mic-drop makeup launches, The One is a space for minimalists to sound off on the single beauty product that’s found a longtime spot in their carefully curated routines.
The interior designer Camille Vergnes may accent her Le Marais appartement with Japanese antiques, Vienna Secession touches, and a mohair Edward Wormley “Big Texan” sofa (not to mention a wardrobe filled with Art Deco jewelry and vintage Yves Saint Laurent blouses), but, above the neck, the Toulouse-raised 30-something prefers to be more pared-back. “In France, it’s about enhancing the beautiful features you already have in a subtle way,” says Vergnes, who compliments her long, virgin lengths with just a hydrated, foundation-free complexion (courtesy of Deciem’s hyaluronic acid and the French pharmacy-favorite Embryolisse Lait-Crème); the occasional swipe of a mood-lifting creamy orange-red lipstick; and full, face-accentuating arches.
“My mom plucked [her eyebrows] when she was young, and they never grew back, so I was forbidden from touching mine,” she explains of the hands-off approach that was instilled in her at a young age; to this day, the beauty minimalist has never removed a single hair. Instead, she opts for a “wild but controlled look,” achieved with a transparent gel from Dr. Hauschka. “It’s everything you’ve ever wanted for your brows,” she says of the clear, conditioning formula, which she found at the Rue des Archives eco-beauty shop, Mademoiselle Bio, almost a decade ago. “It’s organic, it doesn’t flake at all, it doesn’t stiffen your brows, like most gels,” and, she continues, you can even use it as a mascara. “It’s the perfect product for no makeup-makeup.”
