From High Gloss Lips to ’70s Waves, Fendi’s Spring 2022 Show Delivered Disco Glamour

The message from the Studio 54-esque runway? It’s time to party.

Kicking off Milan Fashion Week spring/summer 2022 with his first live show for Fendi, his fourth collection for the Italian fashion house thus far, Kim Jones took us back in time to the epicenter of cool: Studio 54. Models sauntered down the runway in kaleidoscopic fur coats, shimmering fringe dresses and other signature ’70s silhouettes. In other words, it’s time to party.

The brief to longtime collaborators Peter Philips and Guido Palau was this: how would you dress this girl up and make her feel like a million dollars? The response was simple: by going high disco glamour.

@oliviajsinger

For Guido, that meant using calla lilies fashioned out of Murano glass, designed by Fendi scion Delfina Delettrez, to pin back some of the models’ loose cascading waves. This was contrasted elsewhere with precise middle partings and slicked-back, sleek chignons, which felt at once nostalgic and distinctly modern, with the lilies echoed throughout.

Meanwhile, for make-up, Philips looked back to the colorful work of fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez. Cue high-shine glossy lips, in a mixture of clear tones and bold reds, strong peachy blush worn high on the cheeks, and the occasional dramatic smoky eye.

This was head-swiveling, high drama glamour—and perfect Fashion Week party inspo.
