Hello Beautiful’s Greer Simpkins Is Forever Loyal to This Fuchsia Lipstick

Greer Simpkins, the designer behind Hello Beautiful’s 100% cotton lingerie, swears by a fuchsia lipstick once beloved by Maxime de la Falaise.

In the head-spinning age of multi-step skin-care routines and mic-drop makeup launches, The One is a space for minimalists to sound off on the single beauty product that’s found a longtime spot in their carefully curated routines.

Don’t mistake Hello Beautiful’s 100% cotton, made-in-the-USA underwear for granny panties. “They’re sexier,” says founder Greer Simpkins, who debuted the lingerie line in 2014 with a high-cut, rosette-adorned style. (A string bikini, cupped camisole, and frill-edged shorts will soon join the lineup—much to the delight, surely, of Hello Beautiful loyalists such as Chloë Sevigny and stylist Haley Wollens.) “On the outside it seems like an ordinary white panty,”  she continues, “but when you slip a pair on and feel the cotton you realize that it’s anything but.”

At first glance, her cosmetics arsenal may seem similarly basic. Closer inspection, however, reveals that there is indeed more to it than meets the eye: Her makeup remover comes from Paris, a soap (used on her face and body) is handmade with roses in New York’s East Village, and her go-to lipstick is the same shade once beloved by the late model and muse Maxime de la Falaise—a fact she discovered while reading Loulou & Yves: The Untold Story of Loulou de La Falaise and the House of Saint Laurent a few years ago.

“Apparently this was the only lipstick Maxime wore, and because I was just so fascinated by her and Loulou’s style—how individual they were, and how uniquely they put their outfits together—I had to get my hands on it,” Simpkins recalls of YSL’s gold-cased Rouge Pur Couture in Le Fuchsia—a bold pink, which she uses with the coordinating pencil, layering it onto her pout before blotting the excess off with a tissue for a subtle, feminine finish. “It’s like a secret weapon,” she muses. “It makes me feel a little bit more polished, like a put together Frenchwoman.”
