How TikTok Made Me Buy Charlotte Tilbury’s Viral Cream Blush

First came Madison Beer’s Vogue Beauty Secrets, then came the viral TikTok trials–I had to get my hands on the product.

For better or for worse, since joining TikTok, I’ve overhauled my makeup routine—less with the introduction of new beauty items and more with the application of products I already have. My bronzer now sits a little higher on my cheeks and my concealer is strategically applied so as to lift and enhance. And while I consciously acknowledge that these makeup hacks embrace an impossible, filter-inspired beauty standard—contoured cheekbones, a small button nose, full lips, and feline eyes—set by Instagram (and now TikTok), I’m still curious to incorporate some of these tips.

In a roundabout, my latest TikTok tutorial came through this website, from Vogue’s “Beauty Secrets” episode with singer Madison Beer. The video clip first aired on February 18 on Vogue’s Youtube page, where it quickly aggregated upwards of 5 million views. Then came the equally viral videos that followed, wherein a sea of TikTokers put Beer’s makeup routine to the test. To date, the TikTok hashtag #madisonbeermakeup boasts 18.5 million views.

Beer’s multi-step routine uses three Charlotte Tilbury products—the Beauty Highlighter Wand High Blush, the Beauty Light Wand, and the Hollywood Contour Wand. But she cites the first as her can’t-live-without product. It’s a creamy blush in a tube with a sponge applicator and it comes in a bronze-tinted metallic tube. “I don’t care if I have pimples and no concealer, I would use this blush no matter what,” Beer explains. Kirsty Belle, a TikToker whose Beer-inspired makeup test drive is one of the most popular, garnering 1.6 million likes, promises the blush “is worth it and you need to test it out.”

So, heeding Beer’s, and now Belle’s advice, test it out I did; I quickly secured all three Charlotte Tilbury’s products. Aside from the raving reviews from Beer, Belle, and innumerable others, the appeal, to me, was that these cream-based formulas seemed easy to blend, leaving skin looking polished, dewy, and not overdone. Although I don’t wear that much makeup, I’ve still been privy to one too many scarring instances where my at-home mirror promised a natural-looking face, and mirrors in the wild revealed harsh streaks of highlighter, bronzer, or blush. The TikTok reviews made it seem like Tilbury’s products were among the most ideal for achieving that no-makeup makeup look I’ve always been after, no matter the lighting.
