Perhaps it's due to her turn in the forthcoming House of Gucci film, or simply a desire for sophistication amid a sea of kitschy-cool, aughts-inspired accessories. Whatever the case, Lady Gaga stepped out in New York this week in a duet of super-sleek updos that made the case for polish over playful. The first of the set came yesterday, the multi-hyphenate’s brunette hair parted deeply and combed into an immaculate midi updo, minimal volume at the crown countered by a generous twist pinned neatly at back.
This morning, Gaga doubled down on the vibe, this time with a slightly higher-slung iteration of the tie-back. Still showcasing a side part, this more demure twist climbed toward the crown, the resulting bun secured sweetly (and discreetly) at the top. Both styles paired well with graphic cat-eye sunnies, the first heightened by a poppy pink lip, the second coupled with a more subdued coral. The lesson? When trends are at their trendiest, a nod to classic glamour is like a breath of fresh air—or a waft of favored perfume.
