Searching for a New Makeup Bag? Métier and Westman Atelier’s Collaboration Is the Secret to Staying Organized in Style

Just in time for holiday gifting, Métier and Gucci Westman’s Westman Atelier have collaborated on a trio of highly-functional—and chic—cosmetic cases.

It may come as a surprise that, until recently, Gucci Westman had never met a makeup bag she liked. As the veteran celebrity makeup artist and founder of clean beauty brand Westman Atelier laments, “After a certain amount of use, they all became black holes.” Which is why when she finally decided to design her dream cosmetics case, she enlisted the help of Métier’s Melissa Morris, whose luxurious leather luggage is as practical as it is chic.

Launching online today, the year-in-the-making collaboration consists of a petite pouch for a handful of midday touch-up essentials; a larger clutch, complete with a vegan leather strap; and a structured train case, which was meticulously fitted with a wealth of interior compartments. “I wanted it to transform into a mini trunk, a home away from home,” explains Morris, who looked to turn-of-the-century travel trunks for inspiration. “The functionality of the bag really exceeded all of my expectations. There’s just so much space,” confirms Westman, who test-drove a canvas herringbone-print style during fashion week, filling it with current go-tos such as Tammy Fender’s Plant Milk, Mutha Body Butter, and a new holiday-ready shade of her cult Lip Suede compact, which, much to her dismay, left a merlot-colored mark. Morris, however, had planned for such a makeup mishap: each of the three on-the-go heroes is hand-crafted in Italy with waterproof fabrics and a stain-resistant heat-sealed base, designed to be cleaned with a single swipe.

After a 2021 spent largely reassessing her priorities—and her wardrobe—Westman sees the heritage-inspired investment pieces as a welcome arrival. “All I want is to be more organized,” she muses. “To hold onto less stuff, and just have the important things that will stand the test of time.” But, as it turns out, even the newfound minimalist is not immune to a little flourish. “It’s so cute to embellish it,” she says, showing off her own dusty rose case, the handle of which she’s topped off with one of Métier’s signature leather letter charms. Consider it proof of a successful partnership: In Morris’s words, “I never would have thought to put it on there, but Gucci did, and now it needs to be there.”
