SUNU Journal Founder Amy Sall Swears by This Hydrating SPF for a Natural Glow

The entrepreneur and editor-in-chief shares the Fenty formula that fits perfectly into her holistic beauty philosophy.

In the head-spinning age of multistep skin-care routines and mic-drop makeup launches, The One is a space for minimalists to sound off on the single beauty product that’s found a longtime spot in their carefully curated routines.

When Amy Sall founded SUNU: Journal of African Affairs, Critical Thought + Aesthetics in 2015, she was on a mission to celebrate the African Diaspora. SUNU, meaning “our,” in the Senegalese dialect Wolof, covers topics like politics and post-colonial theory as well as Black and African studies, art, and culture. “I love that I'm able to create a space for learning, community and meaningful engagement,” Sall tells Vogue. Self-care helps to fuel her passion: “I always put my health first,” she says. “That extends beyond a skin-care routine.  Beauty is enhanced and maintained when you take care of your mind, body and soul. My approach to beauty is very much holistic.”

The success of the holistic approach is made evident in Sall’s glowing Instagrams. Her one skin-care non-negotiable, she says, is SPF.  Her current go-to is Fenty's Hydra Vizor Moisturizer. “Because of its rich formula, a little bit goes a long way,” she notes. “It also doesn't leave the dreaded white cast. In fact it adds a nice glow to your skin.” The formula nourishes as well as protects with ingredients like kalahari melon, which is rich in antioxidants; niacinamide, to fade dark spots; and a blend of hyaluronic acid and aloe to hydrate and sooth skin.

“I feel most beautiful when my skin is natural,” Sall says. “I love the way my features reflect and catch light, and this comes through especially when my skin is fresh and moisturized.”
