Sydney Sweeney’s Guide to Sensitive Skin Care and Soft Glam

Actor Sydney Sweeney’s skin-care routine is tailored to her sensitive complexion—the better to support her romantic makeup.

Sydney Sweeney may be one of Gen Z’s freshest faces, but her own complexion journey hasn’t been the easiest one. “Growing up, my skin was all over the place,” says the Euphoria actor. “I have really sensitive combination skin, and so I would break out in horrible cystic acne. It was to the point that I would beg my mom not to send me to school.” Mishaps including an all-over toothpaste-as-skin-care treatment in the 10th grade—“My zits were horrible to the point that I ended up putting Band-Aids all over my face and I went to school like that”—and breaking and sliding makeup have resulted in a routine perfected by trial and error. “I wish that I would have had a video like this when I was younger,” says Sweeney, who begins by cleansing her face with a duet of Caudalie Vinoclean Deep Cleansing Exfoliator and Avène Cleanance Cleansing Gel. Next comes a hyaluronic serum from The Ordinary and SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic option, followed by a generous daub of Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentré and a carefully selected sunscreen. “This is the only sunscreen I’ve found that doesn’t break me out,” says Sweeney of EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46. “I used to be terrified of sunscreen because it would just give me rashes, I would break out everywhere on my body and on my face, so I actually went years without using it. And I realize that that’s not a good idea.”
