The Best Beauty Instagrams of the Week: Lizzo, Sasha Lane, and More

This past week on Instagram was filled with cherry-red lipstick, major braid inspo, and words of affirmation.

This past week on Instagram, cherry-red lips graced feeds and offered plenty of inspiration. Tracee Ellis Ross rocked her crimson pout with a fresh face, two sleek braids, and a self-care reminder: “Sometimes you just gotta get dressed,” she wrote. Meanwhile, Jurnee Smollett matched hers with a soft blush and curls while pondering how she could send “a massive bouquet of flowers to women like Cori Bush, AOC, and Stacey Abrams.”

Some major braid inspo entered the chat as well. Golde founder Trinity Mouzon shared a video of her soothing braid routine, reminding followers how meditative the process can be. “There is something soothing in the repetitive process, in knowing how perfectly my hair locks into form, in imagining the generations of ancestors before me who braided their hair in the quiet morning too,”  she wrote. “Loving and nurturing my hair has taught me patience and compassion that is hard to quantify in an Instagram caption.” FKA Twigs showed a couple of blonde braids, too. Hers pairing nicely with freshly-cut fringe thanks to stylist Rio Sreedharan. Then there was model Florence Baitio, who reflected on summer relaxation at the beach; all smiles, swinging box braids, and her glowing, sun-kissed skin.

On a different, but still inspiring note, actor Nathalie Emmanuel shared a post-workout selfie with a refreshing caption: “Let’s normalize being sweaty, frizzy, spotty, hairy and un-plucked in 2021 if you so choose it.” Sasha Lane dawned an elegant white rose in her locs with a twinkling cheekbone highlight and caption honoring where she's at in life right now: “Nothing is wrong," she said. “The angels have been smiling at me a lot lately. I can’t even pretend to stress about something, as I know it’ll all work itself out. I’m just continuing to allow the flow to take me, paying attention to the signs and messages, and listening to my gut-soul.” As for Lizzo? She served up full goddess glow at golden hour with her braids and glistening skin. She also shared her thoughts on the new year thus far: “2021 has already left me disappointed with a broken heart,” she explain. "I am holding onto hope but it’s slipping through my grip. Life is beautiful though, so I’ve decided to sit and feel everything. Though it hurts like hell... I am grateful for feelings.”
