This Nail Art Palette Ring Has Become an Instagram Sensation

The sculptural gold bauble is a wearable palette for nail polish, eyelash glue, or various eye and lip pigments based on your beauty needs.

"I wanted to something designed specifically for artist needs, but that still looked beautiful to wear when not working," says editorial nail artist Betina Goldstein of the latest offering from her luxe tool brand Doublemoss Arte. Called The Artist Palette Ring, it became an instant Instagram sensation since its launch just over a week ago.

Made locally in Los Angeles, the solid brass, sculptural golden bauble features a flat plane canvas with two wells for housing nail polish, eyelash glue, or various eye and lip pigments based on your beauty needs. "While your hand is on an angle, the grooves serve as a resting place for individual lashes and help slow down any dripping of liquid-based products," explains Goldstein of the ring's ergonomic design, which works in tandem with precision brushes, such as her gilded Primero set, to make small, detailed touch-ups a (mess free!) cinch. "The ring's sidewall is thin enough to catch any product that may drip out of the well, adding extra protection to keep the product off of your hand while moving around." The shank of the ring is adjustable so that it's one size that fits most, and artists can change the size as needed to be comfortable in all situations. Another crucial part of the design was using the highest quality brass so that you can effectively use alcohol or acetone to clean the product off of the palette.

While the Artist Palette ring boasts sheer objet d'art beauty, ultimately it was Goldstein's answer to the unique challenges artists face working on editorial and campaign photoshoots. "As a nail artist, I am usually working alongside hair and makeup to get the talent ready quickly to be on camera," she explains. "More often than not, we are in a confined space with not much table area available for us to use. I would try everything from using my glove to the lid of a disposable coffee cup as my palette. This was not only messy, but not sustainable." For Goldstein's fellow pros, her innovative solution is a thrilling game-changer.

"I am really excited about it because it's so rare to see new and innovative products in the beauty market," says celebrity makeup artist Sandy Ganzer, who was drawn not just to the ring's sheer beauty, but its convenience on set—especially during the pandemic where special safety protocols are in place. "As makeup artists, pre-COVID-19 we'd all just used the backs of our hands out of convenience, and this is a chic and hygienic alternative," explains Ganzer. "I can see myself using this for lip and concealer touch-ups constantly." Ganzer is also excited about Doublemoss Arte's next launch, the Artist Palette Cuff, which is currently in design and will cover the top of your hand "almost like hand armor," says Goldstein, adding that it will offer even more space to work with, and thus find broader appeal among makeup artists.

While Doublemoss Arte's tools are designed with pro-level attention, trust that the Artist Palette ring can serve you just as well in front of your bathroom mirror as you carefully apply individual lashes or do a DIY French manicure on your living room sofa. Making good on her goal of “redefining the experience of creating art,” Goldstein's sleek cocktail ring is as practical for experimental beauty lovers as it is pleasing to the most discerning eyes.
