Yasmine Eslami, whose simple, sensual underpinnings are beloved by in-the-know Frenchwomen, reveals her go-to product for a perfectly imperfect red lip.
Yasmine Eslami, Paris’s Favorite Lingerie Designer, on Her Secret Weapon for a Lived-In Red Lip
In the head-spinning age of multi-step skin-care routines and mic-drop makeup launches, The One is a space for minimalists to sound off on the single beauty product that’s found a longtime spot in their carefully curated routines.
Since launching her namesake lingerie line a decade ago, Yasmine Eslami has found loyal fans among in-the-know Frenchwomen who indulge in her simple, sensual underpinnings. “I’ve always liked light things; I don’t like when things are heavy,” Eslami, a former stylist for Purple and designer at Eres, tells me over the phone from her studio in Paris, where Bastille Day celebrations are currently underway. Although she’s referring to her penchant for airy, candy-colored tulles, her words also ring true for her beauty equation: a moisturized, makeup-free complexion accented with a hurried dash of pigment at mouth level.
“When I was younger I always used to wear a bold red lip, but now I prefer something more lived-in,” she says of her signature perfectly imperfect flourish, which she achieves with an easy-to-carry compact from her friend Jeanne Damas’s label, Rouje. Housing four buildable pigments—or “stains,” as she calls them—the gold-cased palette is befitting of any moment or mood: “I go through phases,” she explains. “Sometimes I use only one color and then I switch to another one, or sometimes I mix them up.” This summer, she’s been gravitating towards a warm orange, which she smears directly onto her lips, cheeks, and lids with just her fingers. As she puts it, “You don’t have to be precise.”
