From Target’s designer collaboration to Bottega Veneta’s Viral boots, we couldn’t resist making these purchases.
27 Items Vogue Editors Gladly Opened Their Wallets For in September
As Vogue editors, we often wax poetic on the latest runway must-haves and home-decor treasures, but not every item we gush about on this website ultimately ends up in our closets and homes. Our discoveries are nice to behold—they’re lovely to look at and inspire fun conversation—however, of all these cool things to buy, what did we actually end up buying? Each month we’ll highlight those special finds our editors welcomed into their lives—all the things that gave us buyer’s rejoice.
With the return of New York Fashion Week and The Met gala, September has certainly been a whirlwind month for Vogue editors. But in the midst of the chaos, we certainly made time to treat ourselves—even if it was just by indulging in a mood-boosting candle or a luxurious body wash.
Some of my colleagues also welcomed the new season by stocking up on wardrobe essentials—like a pair of coveted Bottega Veneta boots, trendy sweater vests (we’re still not over that Victor Glemaud x Target collaboration), and cashmere dresses from buzz-worthy label Raey. I could go on and on about the beloved finds all day, but they could sell out at any minute. So if you’re looking for a few cool things to buy, read on for the delightful items that made their way into our lives during the month of September.

One way to make my showers feel a little more spa-like each day is by splurging on my bath essentials. I recently purchased Nécessaire’s body wash in Bergamot and needless to say, it’s made my showers feel extra soothing (and fragrantly blissful!).

I had lunch this month with my friend, the always stylish jewelry designer Aurelie Bidermann, and she was wearing this simple recycled cashmere Raey dress paired with stacks of her gold jewelry. I went home and immediately bought the dress in the hopes that I’d look as effortless in it as she does!

I’ve had my eye on the Bottega Lug boot for let’s just say a while! I could not have picked a better time to rip the band-aid off and purchase. Just in time for fall they’ve already had a few wears before becoming my everyday grab and go.

I love wearing white jeans in fall and winter. I acquired this pair of barrel-legs from Wandler’s newly launched denim line, and it is the ideal silhouette for my 5’3 frame–no shortening necessary! Thanks to their tapered ankles, I can wear any and all of my favorite fall shoes with them without a second thought, from chunky Chelsea boots to flat loafers, knee-highs, and more.

I recently wrote a story about wearing brown hues this fall, and this minimalist set came up during my market research. The trousers are wide leg and low-waisted (a trend from the noughties that I am getting into as of late) and the blouse is cinched at the waist, which gives it a flattering fit. I love wearing this set with a heeled boot and my hair pulled back on days when I’m feeling lazy because I still look quite put together. It’s like a sartorial magic trick.

My favorite purchase this month was this patent leather bag from Marge Sherwood (named after one of my favorite movie characters of all time). It’s the best sized mini bag because it not only fits your cardholder and all your other purse essentials but most importantly, it’s big enough to fit both my phone and vax card!

I love summer, but I would pick fall every time. I’m so excited to wear comfy knits all season long! I recently discovered The Range and became obsessed with this waffle knit top. It’s incredibly soft, and easily a staple that can be mixed and matched with anything in my closet. Earlier this month, I scored this pair of Tory Burch pumps, and I’m looking forward to finally wearing them with my favorite midi skirts and dresses once the temperatures dip.

With fall on the brain, I purchased these elevated track pants for moments when I want to feel comfortable while still looking polished. Unlike traditional sweats, the cotton and nylon fabric is structured and there’s a fasten in the front that gives them a tailored look similar to dressy trousers. In the same elevated comfort vein, I’m so happy I was able to get my hands on this Victor Glemaud x Target vest. I’ve already garnered compliments from wearing it during Zoom meetings, and it will certainly be a go-to throughout the season as well.

My current state of being is hanging onto any ounce of summer I possibly can. So naturally, I opted for an oldie but a goodie this month with Bobbi Brown’s bronzing powder, which never fails to maintain my sun-kissed, bronzy look even as the beach days begin to slowly fade away.

I couldn’t resist this groovy, swirly turtleneck from Raf Simons. I’m going to be wearing it with a leather blazer all fall long.

Inspired by a NYFW seatmate, my September indulgence was a pair of Mansur Gavriel round-toe ballerinas, cut high on the foot. I chose metallic gold for a twinkle toes effect.

I recently moved and needed a step ladder that was both practical and aesthetically pleasing for my new space. After doing some research, I landed on the Lucano style from Japanese company Hasegawa, which has won numerous awards for its stylish-yet-sensible design. It’s sturdy, lightweight, and looks gorgeous leaning up against the wall—especially in the bright orange shade I chose. It’s added warmth to my interior while helping me maximize storage in my small, every-nook-and-cranny-counts Brooklyn home.

I have been obsessed with vests lately, and when I saw this snug little number, I immediately grabbed it. It’s a bit more snug and cropped than the other vests I have, but that will make it perfect for evening or late-night jaunts!

Now that I’m used to making my own cold brew at home, I want to bring it with me (and keep it cold!) on the days I do go into the office. This adorable Hydroflask does just the job, with effective insulation and a sip lid. It comes in a bunch of mood-boosting colors; I went for olive green, though “rain” was tempting. Either one has the visual effect of a forest bath.

My friend John just launched a line of unisex rings, Jem, during New York Fashion Week. I loved seeing how people of every gender identity, style, and attitude wore them at his launch party—stacking them up, mixing the stones—and got my hands on the peridot ring. It’s bold, sculptural, and surprisingly versatile; I love how it clashes with my go-to rings and bracelets, and it brings a juicy pop of color to any outfit.

My new favorite Yuzu candle has been an integral part of the last month, which has felt like the busiest in years. The ritual of lighting it as soon as I step in the door of my apartment guarantees instant calm. I am already plotting to gift one to all my friends and family this holiday season!

While the temperatures are still pretty mild, I knew I’d need a classic wool coat for the chillier days ahead. I couldn’t help but say yes to this sleek camel number by Daily Paper. It’s a timeless silhouette that still feels cool while keeping me warm this season.

As September winds down, cue pumpkin spice lattes and cozy, cozy fits. It’s time to pack away my summer dresses and welcome my new (and old) fall wardrobe. With this transition to fall, is there anything better than a good hoodie? The answer is no. I’m currently obsessed with this Merino Tech Hoodie from Ten Thousand. Yes, I may have bought it for my husband, but you better believe I’ll be wearing it on my morning jog or early coffee run.

A great new purchase of mine is the new Ghia beverage. It was featured in June 2020 by Elise Taylor, but now a sparkling version of it has been added. It’s a non-alcoholic aperitif that’s truly a pleasure to drink.
One more thing that’s excellent: These [laundry strips] instead of a big plastic bottle of detergent. It’s really good.

I acquired this Colefax & Fowler / Aerin collaboration washbag—it’s really commodious, which is immensely useful and, of course, I’m always mad for Colefax’s wonderful traditional English chintz designs.

Since having my baby girl, self care time is close to minimal. Easy use and quick results are what I’m after for hyperpigmentation and sleep-deprived skin. I’ve been sensitive to any retinol I tried, but with this duo, my skin is brighter and smoother with absolutely no irritation. Both effective and gentle, and I love that it works on all skin tones.
