5 Fashion Trends to Retire Now

Lately we've noticed that these five fashion trends are slowing down. Click in to see our list of the worst fashion trends. Think about retiring these.

I don't know about you, but I just dove into my wardrobe for a big closet clear-out. From some trendy items I never got around to wearing to pieces that just no longer work into my wardrobe, I've added them into my donation pile.

If you're similarly clearing out your closet of some items, here’s the good news: There are some really cool trends on our radar for the season ahead. Now’s the perfect time to test out rising trends and put some of the biggest pieces of the moment into your rotation. From the color that’s everywhere to the denim silhouette everyone’s wearing to the print fashion girls can’t stop wearing, I've picked out the coolest pieces to wear now.

Go on to find out the trends to consider retiring (and the ones to start wearing instead), and then shop my picks. And don’t forget—at the end of the day, you should really just wear what you love and feel the most comfortable in.

CONSIDER DITCHING Rigid denim
WEAR Baggy jeans

If runway looks and celeb outfits are any sign, baggy jeans are about to be the biggest denim trend in recent memory. That means you can say goodbye to all of the rigid jeans in your closet.

Shop the trend:
Bdg High-Waisted Baggy Jean ($69)
R13 Wide Leg Cross Over Jeans ($425)
H&M Mom Loose-Fit Ultra High Jeans ($19.99)
Mango Wide-Leg High-Waist Darst Jeans ( $80) $40
Tibi Shirtdress ($635)
Madewell Croco Belt ($42)

CONSIDER DITCHING Neutrals
WEAR Shades of pink

While neutrals hugely popular last year, shades of pink—spotted on the S/S 21 runways at brands including Chanel, Valentino, and Roksanda—is the fresh color we’re seeing everywhere right now. While I'm personally a huge fan of neutrals and don't recommend getting rid of them entirely, I definitely think it's time for a fun dose of color.

Shop the trend:
Gauge81 Durham Twist-Front Ribbed Cashmere Sweater ( $510) $204
House of Want Newbie Baguette Bag ($78)
H&M Jacquard-Weave Jacket ($50)
Jacquemus Le Chiquito Noeud Leather Bag ($660)

We love this regal shade.

Mango Textured Satin Tuxedo Blazer ( $130) $80

CONSIDER DITCHING Basic leggings
WEAR Reinvented leggings

Regular leggings are still a functional piece that is great for a workout, but if you plan on wearing a pair with an everyday outfit, I'd recommend trying out a new shape. I'm especially loving split hems and stirrup leggings.

Shop the trend:
Mango Slit Hem Leggings - Women | Mango Usa ($39.99)

Try these before they sell out.

Forever 21 Size Split-Hem Leggings ( $23) $11
Leset Rio Stretch-Ponte Stirrup Leggings ($150)
Simon Miller Evan Seamless Stirrup Leggings ($170)
Reebok X Victoria Beckham Knitted Leggings ($200)

CONSIDER DITCHING Nap dresses
WEAR "Naked" pieces

Clothing is changing right now in a way that I didn't expect. The more billowy and flowy nap dress shapes we saw last year are being replaced with cutout pieces, micro miniskirts, and bodycon silhouettes. One thing's for sure, skin is in.

Shop the trend:
Deitas Marcia Cut-Detail Shift Midi Dress - Farfetch ($338)
Orseund Iris Le Club Cropped Satin Top ($330)
Georgia Alice Power Satin Mini Skirt ($370)
Cult Gaia Cameron Cutout Cotton-Blend Knit Midi Dress ($460)
Reformation Belmond Cutout Ribbed Cotton-Blend Dress ($148)

CONSIDER DITCHING Super chunky sneakers
WEAR Utility boots

If you've been living in comfy shoes (like me), you might want a fresh take on the pair you're slipping into. Enter: utility boots. The silhouette I guarantee every fashion person will be wearing in the months ahead.

Shop the trend:
& Other Stories Chunky Canvas Lace Up Boots ($129)
Prada Washed Denim Lug-Sole Boots ($850)
Grenson Nanette Canvas Ankle Boots ($430)
Clarks® Arisa Chukka Boot ($180)
Rag & Bone Shaye Hiker Boots ($550)
