“I’m pretty, period. Thank you."
Ashley Graham Tells People to Stop Calling Her ‘Pretty for a Big Girl’
Ashley Graham recently took to TikTok to tell her followers—and people, in general—to stop commenting on her body. She used the trending “BCG Drama Effect” on TikTok to create the video. "Please stop calling me ‘pretty for a big girl,’" the model told her more than 2 million followers. "I’m pretty, period. Thank you—and I’m not an SAT question, I didn’t ask you."
She captioned the post, "Do I make myself clear?" Crystal.
It's ridiculous people are saying this about Ashley Graham, but good for her for taking the time to shut it down. The post has more than 500,000 likes, which is higher than the combined number of likes from her last three posts. So, it's clear that people are supporting her. “How anyone thinks this will make someone feel good baffles me,” one user commented. “I don't want your opinion. Validation comes from myself, no one else." To this, Graham wrote, ”THIS RIGHT HERE!"
Another person commented, “YES MAAM! You are the energy I'm trying to embody forever. I love you, and you ARE BEAUTIFUL.”
Last year, Graham referred to herself as a “nakie big girl" in an Instagram caption, which caused some pushback from fans.
“Nakie *normal* girl,” one user wrote, per InStyle. Another commented, “I hate that this is seen as ‘big girl.’ I see nothing but a beautiful, naturally curvy woman in all her glory... super sexy and womanly.” Graham responded, “I hear what you're saying. But if you look at ‘big’ as a positive and love then you can see it like I do. I love my big, strong, beautiful body.”
I think the message we all should take away from this is we shouldn't be commenting on people's bodies. Period. Point blank. End of discussion. It's reductive, rude, and a waste of time.
