'Bridgerton' Star Regé-Jean Page Responded to All Those James Bond Rumors

So…is that a no?

UPDATE: January 9, 2021— Regé-Jean Page has responded to all this James Bond speculation.

On January 9, the Bridgerton star appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to say he's “very glad” to be among those rumored to take over the iconic role from Daniel Craig. However, he pointed out that there is a history of British actors being thrown into the ring once they hit a certain degree of fame.

“I think there might be an element of cultural translation to be done here. Like if you're a Brit, and you do something of any kind of renowned that people regard well, then people start saying the 'B-word,'" he said, per People. That “B-word,” of course, is “Bond.”

“It's like a merit badge, like the ”B-word" merit badge," he continued, admitting it's not "much more than that."

ORIGINAL STORY: January 7, 2021—

Regé-Jean Page, the breakout star of Netflix's Regency-era romance Bridgerton, is causing quite an, um, stir on Twitter over a social media post.

To be less coy, fans are going absolutely wild over what they believe to be a hint that he's in the running to be the next James Bond. “Regency, royalty,” the actor, who plays the Duke of Hastings on Bridgerton, tweeted on December 16, before the series even premiered. “Shaken and stirred.”

You may recall Bond's famous drink order: a martini, “shaken not stirred.” Well, considering Daniel Craig is set to take his final bow as the British Secret Intelligence agent in the upcoming film No Time to Die, it's time for someone else to speak that iconic line. If Page gets the part, he would be the first Black Bond in franchise history.

Bridgerton fans, of course, are now all-in on Page. “I’m so unabashedly in love with this man,” one user tweeted. “Regé-Jean Page or Henry Golding for James Bond.” Another added, “They missed Regé-Jean Page in the 100 Most Handsome Men 2020 list. He could be the new James Bond...”

“Just finished watching Bridgerton on Netflix. Wow! Regé-Jean Page should be the next man to play James Bond,” another user insisted. “He is so handsome, smooth, and debonair!” Correct on all counts.

On January 6, Variety reported the odds may be in Page's favor to get the role, according to a British gambling company Ladbrokes. “Tom Hardy still leads the way as favorite, with James Norton close behind in second place. But it really is all to play for in the race for 007, and RJP has a great chance if the odds are anything to go by,” Ladbrokes representative Alex Apati said.

Fingers crossed! If you've finished Bridgerton and are looking for something similar to watch until season two (hopefully) happens, Glamour has you covered here
