"I think the world is more interested in the negative.”
Britney Spears Slams All the Docs Out About Her: They're ‘So Hypocritical’
Britney Spears has had enough of the documentaries about her life and career. After breaking her silence on the New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears a few months ago, she's now chiming in on the BBC's newly-released film The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash, and a Conservatorship. (If you're unfamiliar, all these docs dive into Spears's legal situation. She's a conservatee, meaning she doesn't have full legal control over her life and finances. It's an arrangement that's baffled fans for years, and these docs are thrusting it into mainstream conversation.)
But in a surprisingly candid Instagram post, Spears goes into length about why she finds the exposés about her life to be “so hypocritical." “I never knew it was gonna be like THIS 😳😳😳 !!!!” Spears begins the caption of a video of her dancing. “So many documentaries about me this year with other people's takes on my life ... what can I say … I’m deeply flattered !!!! These documentaries are so hypocritical … they criticize the media and then do the same thing.”
She continues to explain how, yes, she's had “pretty tough times" in her life—like extremely public breakups, intense media scrutiny, and sexist media interviews—but she's also had “amazing times” since her rise to fame as a teenager.
“I think the world is more interested in the negative 🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️ !!!! I mean … isn't this supposed to be a business and society about THE FUTURE 🤧🤧🤧 ????" the “Toxic” singer writes. "Why highlight the most negative and traumatizing times in my life from forever ago ???? I mean DAMN.”
Framing Britney Spears was released in February and immediately went viral. It shed light on the #FreeBritney movement, a grassroots fan effort to stop her conservatorship.
Spears ended her recent Instagram post by explaining that she doesn't talk to her former makeup artist, Billy Brasfield, anymore. Per Vulture, he alleged that Spears told him she didn't write a previous Instagram post criticizing Framing Britney Spears. “PSSSS I don’t actually talk to Billy B AT ALL so I’m honestly very confused 😂😂😂 !!! This is my Instagram," she posted.
