Can the Tiny Little Vest Be Hot?

Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa both wear the tiny vest trend.

The tiny vest is back. Not the puffers or fleeces, but a waistcoat plucked from Willy Wonka or The Wedding Singer, and shrunken into a Polly Pocket size. The shrunken piece has been gaining popularity with paparazzi-beloved celebs. Most recently, Dua Lipa took a mirror selfie while wearing a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier orange and yellow vest over a white shirt, something that was reminiscent of a really beautiful cater waiter. In another instance, Bella Hadid stepped out in a quilted black leather version over a splotchy dyed shirt. The piece was so short it hit well above her navel.

Even beyond celebrities, I have had the vest on my mind lately, mostly in weird sickening-yet-hot situations for my “Unexpected Crush Series” for Vogue.com. I featured Demi Moore’s character’s three-piece suit—complete with pinstripe vest—from Now and Then. This past week, I revisited Mickey Rourke’s Oscars look from 2009 when he wore a black vest. It’s burned in my brain.
