Cara Delevigne Almost “Burst Into Tears” When She Saw Her Met Gala Look
Fashion at the Met Gala can be outlandish, but it can also be used to voice opinions. After all, everyone who steps onto the red carpet has a captive audience of millions. This year, Cara Delevingne decided to put all the attention to good use. As a nine-time attendee, Delevingne has had her share of viral outfits, but the custom Dior she wore to 2021’s event is her boldest to date. The white breastplate with the words “Peg the Patriarchy” grew out of an idea Delevingne shared with Maria Grazia Chiuri and her team. “They made it come to fruition which was just so sweet because it’s making a bit of a statement,” says Delevingne. “It’s got a clear message that’s meant to be a bit more lighthearted and tongue-in-cheek.”
Upon seeing the final piece, Delevingne got emotional. “I nearly burst into tears; I felt so grateful,” says Delevingne. “It’s my most simple Met piece, but it says it all for itself.” Here, the star shares a glimpse into her getting ready process and the feminist message behind the look.
