The rapper turned a shopping trip into a fashion moment.
Cardi B’s Version of Casual Wear Is a 3-D Dress
If you’re Cardi B, an everyday outing is going to be a fashion serve, no matter what. This is someone who wears archival Chanel and a Birkin bag to lounge by the pool. This weekend, the rapper—along with her husband, Offset—hit up Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles for a bit of shopping. With typical theatrical flair, she wore a 3-D dress for the occasion.
The futuristic frock is by Pierre-Louis Auvray, a Central Saint Martins graduate who is known for his elaborate, shapely creations (he often works with foam and latex). While the designer’s work belongs in something like The Fifth Element, Cardi, ever the risk-taker, took the dress out for retail therapy instead. Her dress was semi-transparent and featured a dramatic sweetheart neckline and capped sleeves built into it. Underneath, a hint of her black thong was revealed, and she further accessorized with strappy red sandals to match.
Considering Cardi’s daring ensemble was orchestrated by her go-to stylist, Kollin Carter, the look was likely a case of quarantine fashion fatigue. And who can blame her? Having prime access to amazing looks, but with no events or red carpets to wear them to, she decided to turn a shopping trip into her runway. Cardi does this year-round, of course, but this was next-level execution.
