If summer’s It skirt was the little white tennis mini, then fall’s is the tartan check. The kilt-like skirts are everywhere—Monse, Molly Goddard, Saint Laurent, and Christopher Kane have all adopted the classic print in every silhouette from pleated A-line to pencil.

And these warm, woolen tartan skirts are offered in color palettes beyond the red check. There are green- and blue-hued plaids—reminiscent of prepster school uniforms—and khaki-white-and-red versions that offer a little less vibrancy. We’re even seeing skirts done up in that iconic Clueless yellow. No matter which one you choose, any and all would pair well with fall’s stompy Chelsea boots and a chunky knit or neutral-colored turtleneck.
