Dakota Johnson’s Neutral Suiting Is Modern Workwear Done Right
Dakota Johnson’s red-carpet style is always noteworthy, but so too are her everyday outfits. Proving that she can do both megawatt glamour and easy tailoring, the actor delivered two standout looks over the weekend.
First, she attended the LACMA Gala in LA wearing a whimsical embellished bralette and blush wide-leg satin pants, courtesy of Gucci. The following day, she hit the promo trail for her new film The Lost Daughter – directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and starring Olivia Colman and Peter Sarsgaard – wearing smart suiting (also Alessandro Michele’s handiwork).
Dakota was the epitome of back-to-work chic in a fitted blazer adorned with Gucci’s “Eschatology” appliqué on the cuff, and slightly flared trousers. The Gucci poster girl – who recently rubbed shoulders with fellow tailoring enthusiast Gwyneth Paltrow at the brand’s Love Parade showcase – is rarely seen out of her horsebit loafers. She slipped on a burgundy pair for the screening (she also owns styles in white, baby pink and black), for a look made all the more girl-next-door by her straight, shiny locks and blunt fringe.
Stylist Kate Young is responsible for Johnson’s mesmerizing after-dark turns (Sienna Miller is another client). Recent highlights include the feathered disco-ball look she wore to the BFI Film Festival; her sparkling Venice Film Festival gown, and the monogrammed twist on lingerie that she wore to attend the New York Film Festival.
