Dapper Dan Gets the Vaccine, Kim Kardashian Gets Real, and More on Today’s Good Morning Vogue
“If people look at the probability, they’ll see that it just makes so much more sense to take the vaccine than to risk [and] not take it.” So says Daniel “Dapper Dan” Day of the COVID-19 crisis. Today’s episode of Good Morning Vogue takes you to Day’s Harlem neighborhood as the couturier makes his way to the Family Institute of Harlem for the second of his two vaccination shots, stopping on the way to speak with friends and pose for fan selfies, and to do a Zoom with Dr. Mary Bassett, the former commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and the Director of the FXB Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University.
Bassett is a strong advocate for the vaccine. “It’s been given to nearly 78 million people so far,” she says, explaining that none of the three available in the United States is better than the others. “They’re all the same in the sense that they all protect strongly against severe illness, hospitalization, and death. I would recommend that you get whatever is on offer on the day that you go to get your vaccination.” She continues: “We can see the tail end of the COVID-19 pandemic, but it’s going to take all of us to get there.”
Also in this episode, Kim Kardashian sits down with Jonathan Van Meter for an in-depth interview touching on the final season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians and what comes next, Skims and two more years of law school for starters. Her current state of mind? She’s borrowing a page from Riccardo Tisci, who taught her about Punk when she wore his Givenchy dress to her first Met Gala in 2013. “As I’m more confident in myself I get that more: that punk is just an attitude of not giving a fuck... It doesn’t mean you’re a total asshole; it just means you live your life your way and beat to your own drum, and hopefully that inspires people to want to do that for themselves.”
In today’s remaining segment, Vogue’s Virginia Smith, Chioma Nnadi, and Tonne Goodman are joined by contributor Gabriela Karefa-Johnson and model and January cover star Paloma Elsesser to discuss the fashions of the Biden Administration. Vice President Kamala Harris’s inauguration day Christopher John Rogers and her step-daughter Ella Emhoff’s Miu Miu get high marks—no surprises there—but what do they have to say about the President’s shoes? Tune in to find out.
