The new Ten/Ten collection champions a modern aesthetic and responsibly-sourced stones.
DeBeers Latest Engagement Ring Collection Comes From Ten Contemporary Jewelry Designers
Today, diamond behemoth DeBeers launches a collection of modern engagement rings in collaboration with ten independent jewelry designers, including Pamela Love, Marla Aaron, Catherine Sarr of Almasika, and Wing Yao of Wwake. They’re calling the project “Ten/Ten” for the limited run of ten rings for each of the ten designs. All of the jeweler’s creations are inherently sculptural and their contemporary edge breathes new life into the classic DeBeers aesthetic. In addition to the collection’s cool, contemporary vibe, all ten of the new rings, which will be sold on the Blue Nile website, have been crafted using responsibly-sourced diamonds from the DeBeers mines in Botswana. Specifically, DeBeers gave each designer one of these diamonds as a starting point for the rings.
All of the pieces are cool and wildly covetable. While the Yaos created a style that incorporates multiple bands, Aaron designed double rings that interlock at the setting of the diamond and open into an infinity sign. Yao, whose brand Wwake is an exploration into personal and artful jewelry, nestled her round solitaire into two gold bands that fit together like pieces of a puzzle. Sarr and Love both use curves in their rings. Love’s band is fashioned as a braid of gold centered by a round, channel-set solitaire diamond. Sarr, whose label Almasika is focused on highlighting culturally important symbols and totems, chose to create a group of four gold waves that mimic water surrounding a center stone. As she explains, “Interestingly, this project was the first time that my creative process began with a stone—a completely different way of thinking for me, as I usually start with a design—but the ethos of Ten/Ten and the sustainability of these amazing Botswana diamonds were instantly compelling.”
