'Fate: The Winx Saga' Is Polarizing Netflix Users
Netflix's new show, Fate: The Winx Saga, is blowing up.
The teen drama is inspired by Nickelodeon's animated show Winx Club and, per a Netflix press email, “follows the coming-of-age journey of five unlikely friends attending Alfea, a magical boarding school in the Otherworld where they learn to master their magical powers while navigating love, rivalries, and the monsters that threaten their very existence."
Described as a mix of Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and Harry Potter, Winx is only six episodes, which means people are ripping through it. And many are enjoying.
“#WinxSaga got me in a mood i am not gonna get out of,” one fan tweeted. Another added, “If I think of #WinxSaga as edgy, modern, fanfiction, it is not bad and better than I expected.”
A third person posted, “I binged the whole season of #WinxSaga yesterday and uh..I was actually surprised at how much I love it! Where is season 2?”

But the show hasn't arrived without criticism, mostly that Netflix's adaptation is whitewashed.
“Y'all really enjoyed a reboot that whitewashed its characters??? Admit you don't care about representation then because PoC don't get to push that aside,” one fan tweeted.
“Did those over the top transitions and effects just for the winx to not change outfits and only have wings. Also the whitewashed cast and taking out characters defeats the purpose,” another viewer posted.

The fate of Fate: The Winx Saga is up in the air. There's clearly a devoted fan base, so on the one hand, a second season makes sense. On the other, the show has a 33% rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes and, as we mentioned, very valid criticisms. If Netflix decides to make more, there's certainly work to do.
For now, you can stream Fate: The Winx Saga season one here.
