From J.Crew Suits to Limited-Edition Birkenstocks, 18 Vogue Editors Share the Items They Bought and Loved in July

Read on to see what else we made room for in our closets.

As Vogue editors, we often wax poetic on the latest runway must-haves and home-decor treasures, but not every item we gush about on this website ultimately ends up in our closets and homes. Our discoveries are nice to behold—they’re lovely to look at and inspire fun conversation—however, of all these cool things to buy, what did we actually end up buying? Each month we’ll highlight those special finds our editors welcomed into their lives—all the things that gave us buyer’s rejoice.

From limited-edition designer collaborations to once-a-year sales, July was chock-filled with so many shopping opportunities that Vogue editors simply couldn’t resist. One of my colleagues hit the jackpot securing those coveted Jil Sander x Birkenstock sandals, while another managed to get her hands on those head-turning Rick Owens Chuck Taylors. It’s tough for us editors to say no to a great sale too. Rickie De Sole found the prettiest La Ligne sweater for a fraction of the price during Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale, where I also scored a pristine pair of Celine sunglasses.

If curious to know what else Vogue editors purchased—and loved—during the month of July, read on for all of the delightful finds.

This month, I bought a few pieces ahead of my trip to the South of France. Even though I don’t intend to wear a ton of bright colors or prints I still like to have fun with my vacation wardrobe. I opted for luxurious brown hues and approachable patterns in laidback silhouettes that still feel chic. I look forward to wearing H&M’s polo dress over M Missoni’s knit pants (and of course a swimsuit underneath), topped off with Emily Levine’s swirl hat for days exploring local markets, enjoying beachside lunches, and when it comes time for an early evening aperitif.

I was so excited when I found out about the Cross Colours pop-in shop at Nordstrom. So I grabbed these cute HBCU shorts to wear with a cut-out swimsuit to the beach in Miami. I also picked up a gorgeous pair of Céline sunglasses, which added the perfect finishing touches to my vacation outfit.

When I first heard about Jil Sander’s collaboration with Birkenstock, I knew I had to buy them. Despite selling out upon their initial release, you can still score them via pre-order. As an avid wearer of the brand’s previous designer iteration with Proenza Schouler, I love that they add a sophisticated edge to traditional Birkenstocks that can be worn throughout the summertime and for all occasions. I love to wear them with midi dresses during the weekend and with matching top and skirt sets at the office.

From new takes on the traditional white sneaker to different style denim, I’m always looking for ways to elevate my wardrobe basics! Once I caught a glimpse of this classic summer tank with padding in the shoulders, I knew I found this year’s summer staple. Naturally, I purchased the tank in mole, white, and black, and have since mixed and matched each colorway into what seems like 50 different outfits. Who said basics could be boring?

Like any self-respecting Rick Owens obsessive, I had to get his latest shoe, a version of the Converse All-Star with a Brutalist Owens twist. I still haven’t figured out how to style them, I’m thinking with pooling black trousers although Fecal Matter does make the case they look best with a leather bodysuit.

I’m constantly on the hunt for a good barely-there bra—something that just looks really pretty peeking out from a slip dress or through a translucent chiffon blouse. Araks make several styles that fit the bill, and they’re the kind of bras that are nice to collect in all the colors. Currently I’m really feeling soft lilac tones, so this style in particular has been on heavy rotation in the last month.

Wear this body oil and you’ll finally feel like you’ve mastered summer fragrance, even during a heat wave. The scent is perfectly sweet and subtle, and the oil feels light on my skin—save the stickiness for this terrible humidity!

I’d been eyeing this petal-pink silk J.Crew suit for months, but after seeing it on the brand’s new creative director Olympia Gayot over coffee, I had to have it! The color is even prettier in person, and she made it look so cool and easy with flat sandals and rolled-up sleeves. It’s my ideal back-to-work outfit, particularly for those late-summer days when I really can’t put on another dress.

I have a bit of a food earring obsession. My jewelry box is a bonafide buffet, serving up tomatoes, pasta bows, and caviar blinis. The latest addition are these adorable raspberry jelly earrings (which I think look more like grapes). Perfect for summer and all hosting occasions.

After nearly a year of commuting to and from the office with my laptop, chargers, tupperware, workout clothes, and various other items, I figured it was time to get a sturdier tote than the little canvas bag I’d been using. Enter the L.L. Bean Boat & Tote bag which is a staple I’m sure I’ll rely on for years to come! I am also in the process of refreshing my exercise wardrobe, and have been obsessed with all things Alo of late. Their high waist biker shorts are perfect for spinning, yoga, boxing, and my silly little evening walks.

For a trip to Capri, I wanted a headscarf à la Jackie Kennedy on the island and found something I couldn’t not buy! This headpiece features an elastic band (so, no tying yourself) and then of course there is the very fun beadwork. Out of all my July purchases, this one is the one that’s certainly brought me most excitement.

This month I re-upped on shirts from With Nothing Underneath. The British brand, started by a former editor, makes the best cut boyfriend shirts for women. They’re the perfect no-brainer fashion staple that work great with a pair of jeans for the office or linen shorts for the beach.

I have what feels like a dozen weddings and showers approaching within the next month or two, so I am eagerly scoping out perfect wedding guest dresses to buy for all my upcoming events. For an outdoor upstate New York wedding, I bought a gorgeous emerald wrap dress from Reformation. I love that it’s functional so I can still bust a move on the dance floor, but it also features a subtle leg reveal in case temperatures are warmer than expected.

I had a beach trip coming up and needed daywear that was light and breathable. It seems to be a yearly struggle to find summer clothing that I feel comfortable in, but I came across the Vatka Co. shirt and bucket hat and it was perfect for the occasion. It transitioned from the beach to a casual dinner by the water seamlessly and feeling comfortable all the while.
