And the shades are SO pretty.
Glossier's New Lipstick are the Perfect Way to Ease Back Into Makeup
For over a year, we've swapped our lipstick for lip balm, but with Shot Girl Summer on the horizon (nope, still not sick of that phrase), it's time to get back in the game. However, if the idea of precisely applying a matte red lip gives you stress hives, Glossier's Ultralip lipsticks are the perfect way to ease your way back into makeup.
The brand first teased the product back in April, when pop star Olivia Rodrigo applied the unnamed product in her Vogue Beauty Secrets video, creating buzz. Last week, Glossier unveiled Ultralip, calling it “the (cashmere) sweatpants of lipstick.” According to the brand, the formula combines everything you could want from different lip products—the color of a tint, the moisture of a balm, and the shine of a gloss—rolled into a single product. It comes in nine buildable shades ranging from the nude-y Villa to the blood orange Coupe.
I was sold as soon as I saw the products, which look like Glossier's Gen G lipsticks, but in the cutest baby pink tubes. However, I really fell for them hard at first swipe. I applied Villa without a mirror, and was convinced I'd picked up a balm by mistake.
Ultralip has a texture unlike anything I've ever tried: it simultaneously feels comforting and luscious, but also like I have nothing on. It sort of just melts into your lips, leaving them feeling soft and cared for. My chronically dry lips didn't need any extra moisture for hours, which is almost unheard of, even with glossy products.
Like a pair of cashmere sweats, Glossier Ultralip looks just as good as it feels and, as indicated by the campaign, each color looks incredible across a wide range of skin tones. I like to pile on the lighter shades for more opaque coverage, and just dab on the darker ones for more of a popsicle-lip effect. Villa, one of my two favorites, perfectly amps up my natural lip color, while my other favorite Vesper, is a vampy magenta that sheers out to a berry stain.
Plus, for a lipstick that's on the sheerer side, the staying power is impressive. I've yet to try it under a mask, but in my case, the ones I've used stay put for a good few hours.
Most importantly, these lipsticks gave me a much-needed reminder of how fun makeup can be. Ultralip is a breeze to apply, easy to layer, and changed my mood in seconds. I'll be keeping one in every purse this summer and beyond.
