Gucci’s Aria Was a Chorus of Stars, Thanks to the Likes of Madonna and Miley Cyrus

Alessandro Michele’s showmanship and a host of celebrity attendees made Gucci’s first show of 2021 memorable.

When Alessandro Michele announced that his latest collection would be a Gucci Aria, fans knew to expect an operatic drama level. After all, this year is Gucci’s centennial. Michele, ever the showman, will be honoring the milestone with a series of high-profile parties, virtual events, and fashion shows. But first, Michele’s set his runway to a soundtrack of Gucci-themed tracks from Lil Pump and Die Antwoord, teamed up with Balenciaga’s Demna Gvasalia for a capsule’s worth of instantly covetable pieces festooned with both houses’ logos, and outfitted several of Hollywood’s biggest names in the iconic double-G.

As always, Gucci regulars like Jared Leto, Lou Doillon, and Chinese pop diva Kris Wu were present in the virtual front row. Joining them was a new set of Michele-approved names like Miley Cyrus and Serena Williams. The night before the show, Cyrus shared a self-directed short film of herself wearing an emerald suit from the spring/summer 2021 collection and crepe de Chine silk shirt as she pranced around in a field of magic mushrooms with her dogs and threw confetti in the air. The cheerful clip foreshadowed the collection’s mood while providing a peek at Cyrus’ new role as brand ambassador.

As one of the faces of Gucci’s Beloved campaign series, Williams’s affinity for Gucci is well known. Pre-show, she shared her love of games by completing the paperback puzzle book that served as the collection’s invite. In her ombré pink and blue jumpsuit, the tennis champ was chic as she chilled out at home, filling in the playful crosswords from the book.

Fresh from debuting her concert film, Madame X, Madonna got into the Gucci spirit by sharing her Michelle-designed premiere look. Sure, she may have skipped the official show, but for the past 24-hours, the Material Girl has been in Michele mode. Her Instagram has been fully updated with several logo-heavy Gucci looks. In her multi-color canvas jacket and matching hot pants, the star was in her element and right on time to join the fun.
