Gwen Stefani Revived Her “Don’t Speak” Music Video Look

Over 25 years later, that iconic polka dot dress stands up.

It’s been over 25 years since the ska-reggae band No Doubt released their single “Don’t Speak,” but the classic song still holds up—as does the music video. It features Gwen Stefani and guitarist Tom Dumont, bassist Tony Kanal, and drummer Adrian Young doing their best teenage angst in style. They perform in a garage wearing skater clothes, and Gwen a chic navy polkadot dress. The outfit has become an iconic look for Stefani in particular (along with her bright pink hair in “Ex-Girlfriend” or the super-cropped tank in “Just a Girl), and today, the singer just revived the look more than two decades later. (Spoiler alert: the silky dress stands the test of time.)

Posting to TikTok, Stefani uploaded a short clip of herself rocking the famous navy dress, designed by Marco Marco, writing, “happy 25 years of #DontSpeak.” She and her stylists Rob + Mariel paired it with white fringed booties and gold chains for a current feel. (The pretty-grunge look is in, after all.) This isn’t the first time Stefani has revived it this year, though. In January, she also debuted her “Let Me Reintroduce Myself” video, where she pulled out a bunch of her old outfits, including that dress. Consider her successful throwbacks proof that good clothes should never be given away, as you just never know when they’ll come back in style. Or, in this case, stay in style.
