Everyone loves a throwback!
Gwyneth Paltrow Re-Wore Her Iconic Gucci Suit—With a Twist
As much as the fashion world loves all things new, newer, and newest, we can’t resist a good throwback either. Gwyneth Paltrow no doubt knew this when she slipped on a familiar red velvet suit to attend Gucci’s Love Parade fashion show in Los Angeles tonight. The entrepreneur and actor famously wore the ruby-colored suit—designed by Tom Ford for Gucci for fall 1996—to that year’s VMAs. Louche and elegant, the ensemble is now one of Paltrow’s most iconic: right up there with the pink dress she accepted her Oscar in.
Tonight, Paltrow wore the same suit to the Gucci show on Hollywood Boulevard, only this iteration was designed by current creative director Alessandro Michele for the house’s 100th anniversary show in April of this year. Just like in 1996, she wore the suit with a pale blue oxford and her hair pulled into a low chignon.

Ford’s styles for Gucci are increasingly popular. One of the red suits listed on the resale site 1stDibs went for $8500, and instagram accounts like @TomFordForGucci document the designer’s tenure at the house. It’s no wonder why Michele chose to revisit one of their greatest hits for the label’s centennial. Plus, a well-placed repeat is a guaranteed hit among fashion fans. Kim Kardashian West wore a pair of snakeskin vintage Gucci pants at least four times for public appearances; Kirsten Dunst wore the same Christian LaCroix mini dress to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in 2004 and a party in 2017; Rita Moreno wore her 1962 Academy Awards gown to the same event in 2018; and who can forget Jennifer Lopez reprising her iconic Versace that she wore to the 2000 Grammy Awards for the house’s spring 2020 womenswear show? Gwyneth, feel free to break out the suit any time.
