Halsey Says Her Pregnancy Was ‘100% Planned’

“Why is it ok to speculate and pass judgment about fertility and conception?”

Halsey is shutting down speculation about her recently revealed pregnancy. The singer, who's expecting her first child with boyfriend Alev Aydin, took to Instagram Stories on March 1 to clarify that her growing family was planned.

“Why is it ok to speculate and pass judgement about fertility and conception?” she asked in white text on a gray background before continuing, “My pregnancy was 100% planned, and I tried very hard for this bb. But I would be just as happy even if it were another way.”

Well said! How a pregnancy came to be is no one's business but the parents and their doctor. And the only appropriate reaction to “I'm so excited to be having a baby” is “I'm so excited for you!”

Halsey has been open about her desire to have a baby, particularly as her endometriosis made getting pregnant possibly more difficult. She revealed in 2016 that she suffered a miscarriage while on tour, and opened up about her endometriosis online and in interviews.

“Here I am achieving this out-of-control life, and I can’t do the one thing I’m biologically put on this earth to do,” she told The Guardian. “Then I have to go onstage and be this sex symbol of femininity and empowerment? It is demoralizing.”

In 2020 she revealed she was doing well and that motherhood seemed like it would be possible.

At the end of February, Halsey reflected on her pregnancy journey in an Instagram post, writing, “I’ve been thinking lots about my body. It’s strange to watch yourself change so quickly. I thought pregnancy would give me very strong, binary feelings about ‘womanhood,’ but truly it has leveled my perception of gender entirely. My sensitivity to my body has made me hyper aware of my humanness and that’s all. Doing a remarkable thing. And it’s grand. I hope the feeling lasts.”
