The perfect summer glow.
Halsey Says This Is Her Go-To Highlighter for Any Look
When Halsey's new makeup line, About Face, launched earlier this year, we called it a “coloring kit—for adults.” And now that the unofficial start of summer is here, it's more exciting than ever to play with all the bright, eclectic colors.
Halsey always intended it to be that way. “I'm so excited for people to see how well our products actually perform in the summer,” the singer tells Glamour of the newest launches, coming June 8. “I made sure not to release any products that I wouldn’t be confident wearing through a sweaty and intense performance, so I know everything we make is fully summer-proof,” she says of the new bright eye shades and juicy glosses.
Plus, with current best sellers like the Psychedelic Dreams Bundle and the Daytripper Light Lock Powder, Halsey has tapped into a market ready to break out and have fun after a year of covering up. The 26-year-old has a natural pregnancy glow (she's well into her third trimester now), but even she's obsessed with the Light Lock Highlight Fluid that promises “a beam like no other.”
About Face Light Lock Highlight Fluid
$32about face“I love the liquid highlighter, especially because I can use it so many different ways—under foundation, mixed with foundation, on its own, as a final touch, all over the face, or on the collarbones and chest,” she says. “It's so easily customizable and always does exactly what I want it to do.”
Doing “exactly what I want it to do" might as well be Halsey's motto. “I knew I wanted this line to be vegan and cruelty-free, but I really underestimated how difficult that can be,” she says. “In reality, certain shades and textures are near impossible to achieve without using animal products or by-products, but I was determined to do it.” And sure enough, thanks to extensive trial and error and a committed team, she did.
So what other beauty rules does she swear by? And what is she craving more than ever as she nears the end of her pregnancy? For our latest round of Big Beauty Questions, Halsey tells us all that and more.
Glamour: What’s one beauty trend you’re obsessed with right now?
Halsey: I really love using a fun graphic liner in any color because there are so many different directions you can go with.
What’s one beauty rule you think is B.S.?
Honestly, I think that all beauty rules are B.S. Makeup is supposed to be a way to express yourself and do what makes you feel good. There shouldn’t be one way to do something—do what uniquely fits you. Everyone should be inspired to experiment. You want to wear black lipstick to your sister's wedding? Go for it. Chartreuse graphic liner and a bright red lip to walk the dogs around the block? Sure, why not?
You are a chameleon not only in makeup but hairstyles. When do you feel your most beautiful?
I feel beautiful when I feel like my outward appearance is an honest expression of how I'm feeling in that moment. And that's always changing. Plus, without having a “signature” look, I have full freedom of expression.
Fill in the blank: I love my hair when…
It’s strong, healthy, and matches my mood.
What do you do to keep your hair in great shape?
It’s been years of trial and error, but I think I’m finally in a good place with my hair and scalp routine. I use the Act + Acre scalp detox to keep my scalp healthy, and recently I started using the Bread hair mask. It's amazing.

$28SephoraWhat city or country or place gives you the greatest beauty inspiration?
Istanbul and Tokyo! I love places that have rich cultures.
You can use only three products for the rest of your life. What are they and why?
Easy. Lip liner, because I don’t go anywhere without it. Highlighter because you can use it in so many ways. And concealer. I don’t usually wear foundation but concealer is great to quickly cover up any blemish or dark circles.
What colors are loving on your nails right now?
I’ve been liking softer pastels lately, or a beige-y nail with a pop of color on the tip, a little more subdued than what I’m used to.
You’ve got $20 and free roam of a drugstore. What do you buy?
Anything from Honest beauty! I also love the Nyx brow glue and Maybelline Sky High mascara.

$11UltaWould you rather get a facial or a massage?
Right now that's an easy answer—definitely a massage! Pregnancy is rough on the body and the skin, but growing this baby has had me craving a massage near constantly.
What’s your go-to perfume and why?
I haven’t been wearing much perfume since I’ve been pregnant, but I would have to say my go-to is Thé Noir 29 from Le Labo. I get compliments every time I wear it.

$83NordstromScrew, marry, kill: mascara, lipstick, highlighter.
Oh my God. Okay, I'll marry highlighter, screw mascara, and kill lipstick. Only because you didn’t say anything about liner, balms, and glosses…. If I can keep those, then I'll be fine to get rid of lipstick.
How much time do you actually spend getting ready to go out?
I can do a full face of makeup shockingly fast. I kind of go into this meditative autopilot when I'm sitting in front of my kit and vanity, and before I know it, I’m done. But sometimes getting ready for a performance or an event will be the only alone time I've had all day, so if I'm feeling like I need some time to myself, I'll take advantage of that and really take my time.
What’s your favorite way to take a moment for yourself?
Reading and cooking are both huge for me. Anything that can occupy my mind and hands at once is a gift. COVID has given me a bit more much-needed time for both of these.
If you could change anything about beauty perceptions on social media or in Hollywood, what would that be?
I just wish we could all be more transparent and honest. Honest about what we do to achieve our looks, honest about what we look like on off days, all of it. Even the “effortless” looks you see on social media usually aren’t all that effortless to achieve.
