Here’s Why Gina Carano Got Fired From ‘The Mandalorian’

Her exit, explained.

Gina Carano's exit from The Mandalorian happened quickly. On February 10 the actor was dropped from the Star Wars show after sharing some controversial social media posts. (The hashtag #FireGinaCarano quickly started trending on Twitter.) But what did she say, exactly, that led to this? Here's a breakdown of how the events unfolded.

On Wednesday night, February 10, Carano shared a screenshot of a post from a separate account to her Instagram Story. The post equated being a Republican under the Biden administration to being Jewish in Nazi Germany. “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children,” read the now deleted post, Variety reports. “Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews.”

The post continued to compare the massacre of millions of Jewish people to the current divide between Democrats and Republicans: “How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”

Shortly after, news of her firing from Lucasfilm broke. “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a spokesperson said in a statement, per The Hollywood Reporter. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

The Mandalorian airs on Disney+, and Lucasfilm is a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios, so it's doubtful that Carano will be employed by Disney again. She was also dropped as a client by UTA, a spokesperson for the talent agency confirmed to THR.

Carano has yet to make a statement regarding the controversy, but fans on Twitter are happy that she will no longer appear on the show. “How I sleep at night knowing Gina Carano was fired from The Mandalorian,” one fan wrote.

Another user tweeted, “I just woke up and the first thing I see is that Disney fired Gina Carano.”

Carano played Cara Dune in The Mandalorian. It's unclear whether Lucasfilm will replace her with another actor or the character will be written out of the Disney+ show.
