She's been a staple on the red carpet for years now.
Here’s Why Zendaya Isn’t Attending the 2021 Met Gala: ‘My Fans Will Be Very Upset With Me’
Zendaya has become a staple at the Met Gala since her debut in 2015, wearing an iconic high-low Fausto Puglisi dress perfectly capturing the year's theme, China: Through the Looking Glass.
The actor's name has now become synonymous with the event. Who could forget the Joan of Arc–inspired Versace moment in 2018 for Heavenly Bodies or the time she met the 2019 Camp theme head-on in a jaw-dropping Cinderella gown that lit up with the push of a button? (“Very stressful one,” Zendaya told Extra in a new interview. “That one almost took me out.”)
Unfortunately, Zendaya is breaking her streak by sitting out this year's Met Gala on September 13, which is being cohosted by her very own Dune costar Timothée Chalamet. Instead she will be busy shooting season two of her hit HBO drama, Euphoria.
“I will be on Euphoria,” Zendaya revealed to Extra in a joint interview with Chalamet during the Venice leg of their press tour. “I know that this is the first time people are gonna hear that I'm not going. My fans will be very upset with me. I will unfortunately not be able to attend because I will be working on Euphoria. I got my time off to come here and do this Venice experience, which has been really, really special.”
While we may not be able to see Zendaya take on this year's theme celebrating American fashion—you just know she would have eaten up that carpet—the Dune star has been serving up look after look as she promotes her upcoming sci-fi epic.
To start things out, Zendaya practically broke the internet when she wore a nude leather Balmain gown reminiscent of wet sand on the red carpet for the Venice International Film Festival. And honestly, don't get us started on the oxblood two-piece Alaïa ensemble she and stylist Law Roach broke out in Paris.
Frankly, for Zendaya, every day is the Met Gala.
