HGTV's Ben and Erin Napier Tell Us Their Favorite Items for Summer

Ben and Erin Napier—HGTV's newest stars—can't believe their good fortune. Whether it's being on the cover of People magazine or drawing 32 million viewers for the latest season of their hit renovation show, Home Town, the Mississippi couple is appreciating all of life's blessings, even if they're still in shock over their success. “If you'd told me six years ago that I'd be doing an interview with Glamour, I would've called you a liar,” Ben says with a laugh. 

Therein lies the charm of the Napier family, with their down-to-earth, can't-believe-this-is-real outlook on life. Even thought the college sweethearts are used to TV cameras—and now, press— 24/7, they also can't wait to go back to their most important roles: mom and dad.

Three-year-old Helen will soon be joined by a baby sister, and Ben says she asks every day if her new sibling is ready to make her debut. As Erin nears her due date, she understands her daughter's anticipation. “I can't wait for us to all be at home for the next few months with two little girls. It's been rough juggling everything.” 

“Everything” is filming Home Town season five, Ben's Workshop, and their new six-part event series, Home Town Takeover (Sundays at 8 P.M. ET/PT on HGTV and discovery+), where they renovate 12 major landmarks in the town of Wetumpka, Alabama. “Oh, and a three-year-old who's transitioning from her crib to her big girl bed,” Ben notes. “So compared to all that, doing a day of press is a cakewalk.”

Even so, the work is a labor of love. One of the highlights of making Home Town Takeover was getting a chance to renovate the gorgeous, hillside home—known as the Big Fish house—from the 2003 Tim Burton film, Big Fish. “That's a really big deal,” Erin says. “For me, it's like what the Father of the Bride house or the house from Home Alone is to some people. I realize that Big Fish is not the most popular movie ever made, but it's literally my all-time favorite and has been since it came out."

And speaking of favorites, that was the perfect way to ask Ben and Erin about what makes their own home so special and what they can't live without. Time for another edition of Your Fave's Faves.

Ben: Helen’s big girl bed. She has two twin beds that came from Reid Classics. It's a really good friend of mine's company. He's a third generation woodworker. 

Erin: They’re mahogany pencil-poster beds. They’re just so classic, and I love them. And Helen's quilt is from Crate & Barrel Kids. I thought the jungle theme was cool, and she was like, “Nope. I want the ballerinas.”

Ben: We’re big in the ballet right now.

Erin: Real big.

Erin: Covered in Cotton is an amazing family company that makes these beautiful, light, 100% cotton, made-in-America blankets. They grow their own cotton and mill it to make these blankets and donate them to children’s hospitals.

Ben: In a perfect world, Erin would design candles.

Erin: I’m in charge of all development of fragrance for our candle collection, and now we have close to thirty fragrances. People love our candles. They really are the best. For an outdoor candle perfect for this time of year, Porch Party is super popular. It smells like sweet tea and garden mint, which is really refreshing. And then for an indoor candle, I love them all, but Earl Gray is a favorite and it smells like hot tea with lemon. I’m into tea now, it seems. Also, the Scotsman candle is Ben’s cologne, and that is one of our most popular candles. I love it in the wintertime. I have to say, it’s sexy smelling. [Laughs]

Erin: All of our pillows are made in our store. They look like they’re watercolor gingham and come in several colors. I think gingham’s classic especially if you love cottage style, which I do.

Erin: We love to take people coffee and snacks. We have amazing coffee in our store that’s roasted in Washington, I believe. I don’t drink coffee, but Ben loves it. Food and pantry items are great to bring people because it's not a burdensome gift.

Ben: I wear Round House overalls. They’re very type-of old man style. You want lots of pockets, and no waistband.

Erin: I’ve exclusively worn overalls for the last year because I am pregnant and tired. Also, I heard that Steve Jobs wore the black turtleneck and the blue jeans so he didn’t have to make a decision. That’s what the overalls are for me. I found these great linen overalls on Etsy.

Ben: When I was younger, I could throw on any kind of work boots and go to work, but as I’m getting older and my joints are getting a little more ornery, I am kind of obsessed with Lucchese work boots. They’re a little pricey, but it’s the most comfortable pair of boots I’ve ever owned. I’m in love with ‘em. 

Erin: I honestly wear whatever boot matches my shirt best. [Laughs]
