Honey Dijon Puts a Disco-Ready Twist on Bottega Veneta
If there’s one thing Honey Dijon knows, it’s how to hit the club in style. The legendary Chicago-born DJ has spent decades at the heart of where fashion meets music, from her early years in the underground Chicago house scene to her current role as an international DJ and music director for Kim Jones’s collections at Dior Men. (If that wasn’t enough, in 2019 she launched her own fashion line with Dover Street Market, aptly titled Honey Fucking Dijon.)
So it came as little surprise to see Dijon on the guestlist for the latest of Bottega Veneta’s series of under-the-radar “salon” shows, which have consistently brought out the cream of the international music scene; other attendees at yesterday’s presentation in Berlin included Virgil Abloh, Burna Boy, Skepta, and Slowthai. The Italian fashion house caused a stir at the beginning of the year after creative director Daniel Lee chose to remove the brand from Instagram and forgo public-facing fashion shows for the near future, opting instead to expand the narrative of each collection through strictly guestlisted presentations and a digital zine.
While the exact clothes Dijon was in Berlin to watch go down the runway may remain a mystery, her traffic-stopping look from the brand’s spring 2021 collection certainly wasn’t. (The event was held at the legendary superclub Berghain, where Dijon has spun the decks on countless occasions, so it’s no wonder she felt right at home.) Wearing a cornflower blue bouclé jacket with a pattern of red striped bubbles, flared trousers, and a matching clutch bag, Dijon topped the look off with a pair of ’90s The Matrix-inspired black sunglasses. The finishing touch? A pair of disco-ready platform sandals, ready to take Dijon from the sidewalk to the club—and maybe stop at a fashion show along the way.
