How Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively Feel About Taylor Swift Using Their Kids’ Names in Songs
As any Swiftie knows, Taylor Swift is not only close friends with Hollywood power couple Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively; she's also used their family as inspiration. Specifically, she name-checked all three of the Reynolds-Lively daughters in her song “Betty” off her 2020 album Folklore. And the Deadpool star says that's just fine.
“The names are the names of our kids, but you know, we trust her implicitly,” said Reynolds in an interview with SiriusXM. “She's very sensitive to any of that stuff, and obviously the song has nothing to do with our kids other than our kids' names.” In the song “Betty,” a (male) James cheats on Betty, and the news gets out because of Inez, so, no, it doesn't really have anything to do with being a little girl with two actor parents. Although, not for nothing, the song is how the world learned the name of the youngest Reynolds girl.
“What an honor,” Reynolds continued, calling Swift's decision “pretty damn amazing.” It seems that while Reynolds and Lively had a heads-up and probably gave Swift permission to use their daughters' names, the actual James, Inez, and Betty had no idea until Folklore dropped. “We surprised them,” said Reynolds.

“Betty” isn't the first time one of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's kids were connected to a Taylor Swift song. On Swift's album Reputation, a little girl calls out the word gorgeous in the beginning of her song “Gorgeous.” And it didn't take long for fans and critics to place their bets on then two-year-old James Reynolds as the adorable vocalist. Swift confirmed the theory in the album's liner notes: “Baby intro voice” was credited as “by James Reynolds.”
At the time, Lively told Good Morning America, “Our kids have very normal lives, as much as that's possible,” and implied James didn't even know she was on the album. Sounds like someone needs to tell her. Maybe Inez can leak the story once again?
