At least, that’s what TikTok’s most stylish creators are doing.
In Need of Outfit Inspiration? Just Look to Your Favorite Album
If you find yourself in a fashion rut, fear not! TikTok is here with an easy solution. On the app, stylish creators are serving up a brand-new way to find outfit inspiration this season—by looking to your favorite records. Yes, TikTok stars have been putting together ensembles inspired by their favorite albums’ cover art, and the end results are unexpectedly very fashion-forward. Who knew style inspiration was lying around your house this whole time?
One of the earliest TikTok stars to hop on the album cover trend was Wisdom Kaye, who is known for his killer style on the app. He did it back in April of last year, when this all first started, putting together items like a red turtleneck and blush trousers to match the cover art for Tame Impala’s The Slow Rush. He also styled a bright blue crewneck with off-white pants as an ode to Kanye West’s Jesus Is King. In a way it’s a genius way to reinvent your wardrobe if it’s starting to feel stale—it forces you to think about trying new color combinations you haven’t tried out before. And bonus: You may just rediscover a song or album you haven’t listened to in a while, too.
Since Kaye hopped on the idea, the trend seems to have gained more momentum. A variety of creators are now putting their stamp on the outfit challenge. Creator @estelleprsn has done her best Harry Styles Fine Line impression in a pink and blue argyle sweater-vest; @nyaroutjock channeled Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange in, you guessed it, a chic orange slip dress. Not only do these fashion fans match the colors of the cover art, but they try to replicate the feel and theme of it, too. Take @dianamilkanova1, who paid tribute to Lana Del Rey’s ethereal Born to Die by carrying a bundle of baby’s breath and wearing a blue puff-shoulder dress that would make Del Rey proud. Forget merch—it’s all about the artist album outfit now.
