Bennifer’s romance is on the grayscale.
J.Lo and Ben Affleck’s In-Sync Style Proves That Love Is in the Air
Things are going great with Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. It’s not necessarily the on-camera smooching or the recreation of the OG Bennifer hand-on-bum moment from the 2002 music video 2002 “Jenny from the Block.” Instead, it’s their outfits. Yesterday, while heading to a Los Angeles mall, the two sported relatively simple looks: Affleck, with his chiseled, grisly jaw, wore aviator glasses, a black button-up, and a pair of dark grey jeans. Lopez also opted for sunglasses and chose a black sleeveless turtleneck and body-skimming skirt with a flared hem from the Tom Ford fall 2020 collection. For a hint of haute elevation, she wore Christian Louboutin pumps and carried a Hermès Birkin bag. And, of course, Jenny being Jenny, she donned her classic hoop earrings.
At first glance, Bennifer’s get-ups are relatively pared-back. It’s not much to turn heads, but the aha factor here is that the two mirror one another in matching grayscale ensembles. The duo is quite in sync with their low-key coordinated looks. Mirroring one another’s style isn’t completely uncommon, either. Lopez herself has long been in relationships in which her beau’s sartorial style is very much reflected. When she was in her hot-and-heavy stage of dating Alex Rodriguez in 2017, she matched his tweedy, Britannia-minded vibe. (Or, most likely, A-Rod was matching hers). The same goes for her black leather and white-on-white looks with Diddy back in the day.
Other couples that have been stylishly on the same wavelength include David and Victoria Beckham, who in the late ’00s made their outings a paparazzi dream day thanks to their full twinning leather looks; while in the mid-’90s, Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t just match with sleek buttoned-up outfits, but also choppy, blonde hairstyles. (Pitt is a serial-style mirrorer. There is a Pitt meme of a dug-up article with the title that reads: “Brad: The Man Who Looks Like His Girlfriend).
The art of matching is far chicer than tongue-down-the-throat PDA. It’s low-key love in a tailored package. (It’s also a stellar way to potentially share clothes!) Let’s see where Bennifer takes their romance next...and how their clothes will follow.
