This shouldn't be this funny.
Jennifer Garner Sent a Selfie to a Wrong Number—and the Text Exchange Was 'Humbling'
The only thing worse than the dreaded “new phone, who dis?” is getting a “wrong number” text right after sending a personal photo—a lesson Jennifer Garner just learned the hard way.
On October 1, Garner shared a hilarious text exchange she had with a stranger to her Instagram grid. Things started out pretty normal: the number the actor had in her phone was saved as “Carl,” as in her former Alias costar Carl Lumbly.
“Carl-- this is Jen G. Here comes proof,” she texted. Unfortunately for Garner, she shot over the selfie before seeing Not Carl's response, “wrong number.” Also, we love that she described herself as "Jen G," so whoever she was texting probably had absolutely no idea they were talking to a Hollywood A-lister.
When she realized her mistake, Garner responded in the way you imagine America's Sweetheart might. “Hahaha," she replied, with good humor. “Well this is me!”
Garner described the experience as “humbling” in her caption. “You know the one time you take a selfie to prove to someone you’re you? And get a “wrong number” message just as it’s gone out into the world?,” she asked. “Well, it’s humbling, isn’t it. #IfYouAreWorkingWithCarlLumbly #PleaseTellHimImLookingForHim #BristowAndDixon.”

Obviously, Jennifer Garner didn't have to share this moment with her 11.4 million Instagram followers but we're glad she did—and so were they. Fans were quick to tell the actor how much they would've appreciated getting a surprise text from her.
“😂😂 That text exchange will be the only thing that person talks about till the day they die,” one user joked. “'Did I ever tell ya the story when Jennifer Garner texted me?' Response from 11year old: 'Yes grandpa. 100 times already.' 😂😂😂"
Garner, who starred as Sydney Bristow in Alias from 2001-2006, recently celebrated the spy series' 20th anniversary by sharing a cast reunion in her debut TikTok post. “I am more embarrassed for myself than you could possibly be for me, so just please—avert your gaze. 🙈👵🏼,” she joked about joining the app.

She also gave a shoutout to the cast and crew who couldn't make it to the celebration—which seems to include Lumbly. “We missed everyone who was working and couldn’t make it in. We missed you, [J.J. Abrams], (because I screwed up and made this happen on a night you were busy). But man, it felt so good to be together again. ♥️🥷🏻👩🏻🎤"
So, if you're reading this and your name is Carl Lumbly, Jen G. is looking for you!
