Kate Moss Is Bringing Back Bootcut Jeans
London Fashion Week kicked off this week, and British stars are flocking to the shows. Richard Quinn’s spring 2022 collection in particular brought the star power, with Boy George and Kate Moss both in attendance. For the latter’s front-row fit, she actually revived a 2000s denim trend in a way only she can. And no, we’re not talking about low-rise jeans here. We’re talking about the less-controversial, but still polarizing, bootcut jeans.
Bootcut jeans—that would be jeans that are slim-fit to the knee, then slightly flared out at the calf—had a major moment during the 2000s. Stars like Britney Spears and Halle Berry would wear them with heels on the red carpet, sometimes even throwing a dress on top of them for good measure (because why not? It was the 2000s). For a more sophisticated take, however, Moss dressed her bootcut jeans up with a velvety blue blazer, crisp white button-up shirt, and round-toe brown boots. Finished off with her black aviators and a snakeskin clutch, her whole ensemble had a polished, model-off-duty feel. In true Moss fashion, it was put-together but not over-styled.
Consider Moss's take as the ultimate inspiration for how to bring the throwback jean back to your own wardrobe. Just remember to make sure the rest of your outfit’s pieces are sleek and modern, in order to offset the jeans's slightly retro feel. Otherwise, you run the risk of looking like you belong in a Y2K time capsule. At least there was good music then.
