Katie Holmes Already Has Spring’s Perfect Dress

The season doesn’t officially start until next week, but the actress has already discovered its essential piece.

Spring might not officially start until next week, but even the slightest change in weather can tempt celebrities into unveiling their seasonal wardrobes early. And after spending the entirety of winter test-driving enviable coats and strolling through downtown Manhattan with boyfriend Emilio Vitolo Jr., Katie Holmes is ready to ditch the outerwear.

Yesterday, as New York City enjoyed temperatures in the 50s, Holmes switched gears, breaking out a piece from one of her favorite designers: Ulla Johnson. Spotted during a coffee run in SoHo, Holmes clutched two lattes while wearing Johnson’s crepe de chine “Suki” dress. A standout from the spring 2021 collection, its patchwork prints, billowing sleeves, and keyhole cutout were clearly meant for balmy days. The city isn’t quite there yet, but Holmes’s carefree look offered a glimpse of what’s to come.\

After all, Holmes’s wardrobe—and the plethora of paparazzi pictures it features in—often serves as a barometer for what New Yorkers are craving. The Khaite knit bras, Rag & Bone leather jackets, and Frame boots she’s photographed in either sell out or become ubiquitous on social media. Johnson’s bohemian midi-dress has a similarly crowd-pleasing sensibility. Paired with white sneakers, Chloé’s minuscule Daria chain bag, and a grey face covering, it makes for a versatile, easy-to-wear piece we’re likely to see popping up everywhere once the weather allows for it.

Given that Holmes was spotted out in JW Anderson’s chain loafer slides in mid-February and is already breaking out the boho looks, it’s clear she’s more than ready for the forthcoming season—and with her prescient tastes providing a chic example, you can be too.
