Katie Holmes Updated the Little Black Dress With This Bold Cutout Look
Monochromatic may be the look for New York Fashion Week this year. First, Kylie Jenner in an all-white outfit, and now casual style icon Katie Holmes in an all-black ensemble.
Holmes was spotted September 8 looking chic at the grand opening of the Vacheron Constantin boutique. The actor's look practically blended into the black carpet; she had on a little black dress with string ties and cutouts in the front, plus a black button-down draped over her shoulders. She kept the look casual with some white tennis shoes.
Holmes also showed off the outfit on Instagram, posing on a rooftop and showing off a smoky eye look.
The off-the-shoulder moment is giving us flashbacks to the outfit that cemented Katie Holmes as a style icon: her cashmere bra with matching sweater, which was slouched slightly off her shoulder.
“I didn’t want to get into trouble with my teenager! We were school shopping, and I was just trying to hail a cab on Sixth Avenue,” she told InStyle of the iconic look. ”It looked way more glamorous than it was.”
In that same interview Holmes also opened up about her daughter, Suri, who's now 15. “I love her so much,” she said. “My biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality. To make sure she is 100% herself and strong, confident, and able. And to know it. She came out very strong—she's always been a strong personality. She'll pick an activity and work her butt off until she's really good at it. Then she's like, ‘Okay, I'm going to try the next thing.’ She's very focused and a hard worker…. I've always wanted Suri to feel empowered too. I remember asking her what kind of party she wanted for her fourth or fifth birthday, and she said a fairy party. So we went to the fabric store and picked out everything we needed for fairies. I wanted her to create things instead of having stuff done for her. That way she was always in charge.”
