Kit Harington Just Gave a Rare Interview About His Newborn Son

Here's what surprised the Game of Thrones star most about fatherhood.

We may not know the name of their little wildling, but Kit Harington did just give a rare interview about his son with fellow Game of Thrones star Rose Leslie

While discussing his upcoming episode of Modern Love with Access Hollywood’s Zuri Hall, Harington opened up about fatherhood's biggest surprises. “They tell you and they don’t tell you," the actor said about raising a child. "Everyone goes, ‘Look, it’s big, what you're about to go through is big.’ You have no way of knowing that until it happens. Then, what surprises you is you go, ‘Oh, this goes on forever.’ Like, you don’t get a break from it. Every day, I wake up and I look after this little human and now we’re part of a unit together."

The actor continued, “I think the thing that surprises me most about fatherhood is you are now a unit, the three of you, and that’s a whole new dynamic you need to find—and pretty much find every day as he grows and changes.” He adds, "It’s a beautiful thing, it really is.”

Kit Harington and Rose Leslie met while playing enemies-to-lovers on the hit HBO fantasy drama in 2012, with Harington starring as the perpetually brooding Jon Snow and Leslie as Ygritte, the hard-edged Wildling he falls for beyond The Wall. In 2018, the real-life couple exchanged wedding vows in an intimate ceremony in Scotland.

Though Leslie revealed her pregnancy in 2020, news of their son's birth wasn't confirmed until the Harington “unit” was spotted out on a walk in February 2021.

It's no surprise these two have kept their parenthood journey close to the vest considering they've been trying to maintain a certain level of privacy for years. In an interview published in The Guardian back in 2017, the actor revealed why he and his then-girlfriend never pose for photos together.

Harington told the newspaper that he sets aside days where he doesn't take any fan photos at all, saying, "you just have to, otherwise, you start feeling like a mannequin." He continued, "Especially me and Rose, we never do a photo together. Because then it makes our relationship feel like…puppets. Like we're a walking show."

He has a good reason for keeping information about their relationship to himself. "I just don't—and I won't say much about it now—but I don't believe in talking about one's relationship in the press because it's…I strongly believe it's her relationship and mine, and anything I say here, she may not want me to say," he said. "So I just don't say it. I genuinely think it's our private life."
