Lady Gaga Finds Her Inner Showgirl and Hits a Fashion High Note
Lady Gaga’s wild outfits might get the bulk of the attention, but she’s a classicist at heart. Always ready with a vintage reference or nod to Old Hollywood, Gaga often transforms herself into classic archetypes like the bombshell, femme fatale, or in the case of last night, the showgirl. After wrapping up three nights at Radio City Music Hall, performing alongside her musical hero and longtime collaborator, Tony Bennett, she stepped out in a winning look from Georges Hobeika Alta-Costura.
As she exited the venue to greet the crowd of fans waiting outside, Gaga dazzled in the custom gown, which featured crystallized silk-tulle and silver floral appliqués that caught the light when photographers snapped her picture. With its plunging neckline, delicate straps, and 3-D ruffles at the hem, the dress was brimming with details, all of which called to mind the costumes created for golden age actresses by designers like Adrian and Edith Head. When she exited the building, the only thing on her arm was her music director Michael Bearden who joined her for a celebratory post-show drink. As the duo headed to their car, fans were given a full view of one of the star’s glitziest outfits to date.

The night also marked the first time Gaga has worn Hobeika’s designs. In his initial sketches, he paired the crystalised dress with a feathered stole for maximum glamour, but in true Gaga fashion, she saved the white feathers for posing backstage with Bennett. While it didn’t have the meme-ready internet appeal of the meat dress or her iconic multi-layer Met Gala cape, the Hobeika piece aptly captured Gaga’s current mood. Besides, after bringing down the house, singing Cole Porter, and hoofing it alongside one of the world’s greatest crooners, she deserved a look as captivating as her performance.
