Forget glamorous gowns. I’d take the French star’s casual approach to Cannes style any day.
Leave It To Charlotte Gainsbourg To Rock a Canadian Tuxedo at Cannes
The Cannes Film Festival’s red carpets are all about extreme glamour (so much so that, one point in time, those without heels and dinner jackets could be turned away). This year, we’ve already seen splendid dresses from Balenciaga, Chanel, and Jean Paul Gaultier Couture on the red carpet. But today, French actor Charlotte Gainsbourg showed up in a more casual take on Cannes style. Instead of your traditional gown, she attended a photocall for her new film Jane Par Charlotte in a Canadian tuxedo.
Gainsbourg is known for her effortless, laid-back style (a French girl signature), so it makes sense she would bring that vibe to Cannes. The star wore a denim jacket with jeans in the same wash, and broke up the Canadian Tuxedo with a brown leather belt. Both pieces, by Saint Laurent, were fitted and streamlined, and her sleek leather boots also helped elevate the look and make it feel event appropriate (though undeniably a statement, even at the more casual photocalls). There’s something extra cool about wearing denim at such a glitzy festival. Now I’m considering wearing double denim for my next event in lieu of a suit, too.
