In custom Versace, the rapper embraced his status as music royalty.
Lil Nas X Pulled Off Three Regal Outfits on the 2021 Met Gala Carpet
This year is Lil Nas X’s first time attending the Met Gala, which is being held tonight at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the artist certainly made a stellar debut on the event’s famous steps. The rapper chose to wear a dramatic ensemble custom-designed by Donatella Versace that was the red carpet equivalent of a Matryoshka doll. One grandiose outfit was simply not enough, so Lil Nas served three.
For his first outfit reveal, Lil Nas X wore an ornate cape that was covered in intricate gold beading. The design had a royal feel to it. The cape had a long, flowing train that couldn’t help but command attention on the red carpet, and this comes just a day after Lil Nas X wore a half-suit, half-gown at the VMAs.
Shortly after taking to the carpet in his cape, Lil Nas removed it to reveal a golden suit of armor underneath it—as though he was ready to battle all other attendees for the best dressed title. But the bold statements didn’t end there. The star shed that layer and slithered out in a slinky bodysuit, the bodycon design covered in crystals and Versace’s signature house print.
This is the rapper’s first Met Gala experience, but we aren’t surprised to see that he took to it naturally. Whether it’s his bold music videos (“Montero,” anyone?), or his many show-stopping VMAs outfits, the star has a history of using clothing to make a statement. Yet tonight, he certainly took things to the higher—and even more epic—level.
